The rules for marketing have changed. Some of the media you may have been using to advertise your
The sad fact is, businesses today are probably no longer bringing the results they once did.
- Newspapers are a dying breed. Fewer and fewer people read them. Your ad in a newspaper reaches an uncertain audience who may not even notice it before they turn the page. And unless they’re specifically looking for your product or service, it’s a hit-or-miss proposition.
- The Yellow Pages is another medium whose time is quickly passing. Who bothers to look anything up in them anymore? On delivery day, many people just take the phone book directly from the doorstep to the recycling bin with no stops along the way.
- Forget about flyers left on windshields or hung on doors. You could spend a fortune plastering the town, and never know if you’re reaching the right people.
- And you have the same problem with door-to-door direct mailing. Unless they happen to need what you offer at the time they read your letter, they may forget all about you.
So How ARE People Finding Your Business in Your Area These Days?
The easy way. They’re doing a quick search on the Internet. Statistics reveal that 97% of U.S. Internet users research shopping information online, and 51% describe their approach as “Shop Online, Purchase Offline” (NPD Group). We also know that 70% of online searchers are looking for local businesses and services (Kelsey Group). You have to agree, it’s so much easier than pulling out the Yellow Pages. You just punch in the city and business type, and Google spits out a list of choices.
And when that list appears, where do you want to be? Obviously, you want to be somewhere on the first page, as close to the top as possible. You want to put yourself right there where people who live in your area, and who are looking for you, will see your name quickly. You want to get their attention right away. Now, if you’re not all that familiar “Internet marketing,” the thought of it may concern you a little because you’re not sure what it will require of you.
On the other hand, perhaps you have been involved with social media marketing on Facebook; or you’ve done some “pay-per-click” advertising; or maybe you even have your own website . . . and you’re wondering what we have to offer that’s different from that.
Well, what we’re talking about IS different. WAY different. We’re talking about a completely different form of Internet marketing that doesn’t require you to build a website, know about search engine optimization, or ever think about “pay per click.” It’s a powerful, proven medium that reaches exactly the people you want (in fact, they can’t avoid you), that is competitively priced, and that brings consistent results.
We’re talking about something called “Google Plus (Formally Google Places).”
Like we said, you may not have heard of it. In fact, the people who are using it to find you may not even know about it. It’s “hidden.” You see, people are automatically directed to Google Plus when they search for a business on Google or Google Maps, whether it’s on their computer or their iPad or from their Smart Phone.
Your prospect enters the search terms, and when the all-important results come up, your position on the page determines your future. If you’re on that first page, near the top, your chances of being called and gaining a new customer increase exponentially. But if you’re not there, they’ll be calling your competitor. How many times can you afford to let that happen?
Well, it could be happening right now. If you have a minute, you can see what we’re talking about. Do a quick search on Google for [city] [name of business type]. Look at the results page.
Where are you?
Are you somewhere toward the bottom of the list, buried a couple of pages back by default? Are you on the list at all? And who IS on the list? That’s who’s getting the calls that could be coming to you.
I hope you’re beginning to see the value of finding out more about Google Plus. But be warned, using it right takes quite a bit of know-how and finesse, or you’re better off not getting involved at all. Do it wrong, and you could end up buried in the back. Even worse, you can get “blacklisted.”
Now, you don’t want that to happen because then you’ll miss out on the most powerful marketing method available today. If your name is not showing up when your prospects are doing a search, they’ll end up going with whoever does show up.
Do you really want your competitor to end up getting all that traffic that was supposed to find YOU? It’s critical that you establish a presence on Google Plus. That’s where people are looking for your type of business. But you don’t have to spend the time to educate yourself on the best way to use it. And you don’t have to pay one of your staff to spend hours in trial and error trying to figure it all out. Not when you have us.
